Neuromuscular TMJ Therapy

Do you have severe headaches, neck aches, clicking or restricted opening range of the jaw? It may be Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome.

At Amine G. Khoury DDS, we have pursued advanced training in this disorder.

Signs and Symptoms of TMJ:

  • Popping or clicking when opening the mouth or during chewing
  • Severe headaches
  • Pain in jaw muscles
  • Locking of the jaw
  • Cramps or spasms within the jaw

If you have any of these symptoms, speak to Dr. Khoury. Our treatment usually consists of no pills, shots, or surgery. We are able to address these difficulties since they are most probably brought on by clenching your teeth when you are asleep and sometimes throughout the day. Whenever you clench your teeth, you use a number of the most powerful muscles in the human body. These muscle contractions may cause early morning headaches and/or tension headaches, and even damage surrounding ligaments, teeth, and other muscles.

By simply decreasing the intensity of the clenching by wearing a night guard, you’re successfully reducing the source of the discomfort.

Dental treatment to cure malocclusion requires the use of a splint, or an oral device that temporarily alters the bite. In more severe cases, the doctor could suggest a long-lasting improvement in the bite with tooth replacement, moving teeth using orthodontic treatment, or possibly a combination of bonding and crowns or veneers.
